Long Play House

Some homes are arranged around a television. This one is arranged around a record player. With one wall removed and the kitchen opened to the living room, the whole space now moves the way its owners do: cooking together, hosting friends around a long table, and letting side B play out while dinner finds its own pace.

One Wall, Removed

The owners bought the home already knowing the wall would go; the question was how. A new beam tucked quietly below the ceiling line made it possible, opening the kitchen and living room into one continuous space, so the cook is never separated from the conversation.

The Social Kitchen

Designed for two people who take turns at the stove and rarely cook alone, the new kitchen blends warm timber cabinetry with a green tile splashback that picks up the home's original hunter green trim. An island bench with seating keeps guests close, open shelving keeps daily things at hand, and everything less lovely, the bins, the microwave, disappears into the joinery.

Living, Laid Back

The TV is here, but you'd have to look for it. Instead the room leads with layered seating, timber shelving and the vinyl collection stored under the bench, ready for slow evenings and something stirred from the cocktail cabinet. It's a room that encourages staying at the table a little longer.

The Green Thread

Outside, a gentle whitewash and warm terracotta tones refresh the facade while the hunter green of the window frames extends to the screen door and garden planting. One colour, carried from the street to the splashback, ties the whole project together and honours the home's Federation-era character.
